This image was taken in the NYC subway system (unfortunately, I don’t remember which stop). Unlike most of the images I take, this one was post-processed. I used the TiltShiftGen app to play with focus to simulate depth-of-field across a flat surface where it did not exist as the image was...
Rocks, Manor Park
posted by Clay Gordon
These are actually three consecutive exposures taken while climbing out on the rocks at low tide in Manor Park. I did not consciously intend them to flow together like this, but when I was scrolling through them on my phone I realized that the edge match was pretty remarkable. Sometimes you get really, really, lucky. The ragged edges of the Kodot film add to the effect. Price: $120 Small (~30x11)Large (~40x14) + $90
Bellflowers, Larchmo...

It’s been a very wet Spring into early Summer here on the Sound Shore of Westchester. The light has been kind of flat and regular which is sometimes a good thing as Hipstamatic has troubles with really contrasty scenes sometimes. I love the intense blue and the delicacy of the rain drops on...

I don’t know how many times I’ve walked down Larchmont Ave – at different times of day in all sorts of weather at all times of the year; different sides of the street. Late Spring into early Summer is always a special time, with things changing from day to day. I saw these...
Hostas, Larchmont
posted by Clay Gordon
Hostas are amazing plants (at least I think they are). They are everywhere you look, but the variety is simply amazing if you actually look. Solid-colored or variegated this way and that … I simply had never seen hostas this color before. I saw these on Larchmont Ave today on my walk...
Manor Park #1

Manor Park in Larchmont is a gem. The Manor was surveyed in the 1880s by Frederick Law Olmstead (of New York Central Park Fame). The park is perched right on Long Island Sound and is maintained immaculately. Every time I go there I see something new. I don’t go there nearly often...
Afternoon, Rurre
posted by Clay Gordon
We stayed at Complejo El Mirador during our stay in Rurre. It’s on a hill overlooking the town, the river, and, facing south and to the west, an unbroken vista stretching farther than the eye can see across the Beni. The late afternoon light is often dramatic as this picture, taken...
Storming Amazon

This was taken from the shore of the Rio Beni in Rurrenabaque, Bolivia using the iPhone Camera app. Volker, Mark, and I had just returned from a boat ride up the Beni to the entrance of Madidi Park and were running, barely keeping pace, with the front of the storm as we raced to the safety of...
Exitstentialism #1
posted by Clay Gordon
A pun on Sartre, this is a photomontage of nine images taken of exit (and thematically related) signs I took in the NYC subway system and then arranged in Photoshop. Each of the individual images was taken with Hipstamatic on iPhone4 with the Salvador64 lens and Dream Canvas film. The lens...
Lunch: Fried Piraña
posted by Clay Gordon
When the menu says Piraña Frita – fried piranha – who am I to ignore the hidden Andrew Zimmern lurking inside? Unfortunately, the beast did not taste much better than it looks. Small, bony, dry, and not all that flavorful except for the cheek meat. Still—any day where you get to...

This was also taken at the Complejo Landivar, the hotel we stayed at in Caranavi on my Bolivian road trip. There were many familiar plantings all around the Complejo (complex) but these were not ones I was familiar with. Price: $60 Small (12x12)Large (18x18) + $65.00MatteGlossy

I traveled to Bolivia twice in 2010, and on the second trip (in November), I traveled by road from Santa Cruz de la Sierra to La Paz, and then into the South Yungas—part way along the most dangerous road in the world. Our first overnight stop out from La Paz was in the bustling town of...
